Community
As a UNICEF GOLD Rights Respecting school, we strive to work alongside our school community and beyond. We foster positive, respectful relationships within and beyond our school community and celebrate the diversity that this brings.
We build our pupils knowledge of what characteristics a community has from the first moment they step into our school and explore how they as citizens can enhance and improve our local and national community.
At Valley Invicta Primary School at Holborough Lakes, we take pride in working with our local community. We hope the information below will tell you a little bit more about some of the projects we have been involved in.
Dandelion Time
Dandelion Time is a local charity who assist children with their emotional wellbeing and mental health. The charity run various fundraising schemes and our Young Carers have just undertaken a £10 challenge where we will be given £10 in cash and we need to use our entrepeneurial skills to build that £10 into more money which we can donate back to the charity. We have some very exciting ideas which we will be implementing over the next couple of months so please watch this space!
Food and Hygiene Bank
We are pleased to have our own Food and Hygiene product here at Holborough Lakes which we advertise to families in need. Our parents have been very kind in donating items which families in need can use when they need them.
Dunelm Gifting Tree
We have worked with Dunelm to donate to their Christmas Gifting Tree initiative. They gave us some labels to hang on our own Christmas Tree in Reception and parents were able to choose a label and buy a present for the person identified on the tag. This was a hugely successful initiative and, thanks to the exceptional generosity of our parents and children,we were able to donate so many beautiful gifts to a charity called 'Survivor's Story' who help adults and children who have been subject to domestic abuse.
Coffee Mornings
We have recently established regular Coffee Mornings for our parents to come in and spend some time to 'blow off some steam' with other parents. Our next session will be relating to sleep and there will be an informal chat around sleep, different techniques to enhance sleep for our children and hints and tips. The next step will be to have coffee mornings open to the wider community so that we can provide time and assistance for local people.
Christ Church
We work closely with Christ Church in Snodland and Reverend Danielle Pearson-Smith. Rev. Pearson-Smith has presented assemblies and the children take part every year in a carol service, Easter service and harvest festival, linked to the church. The church manages our Harvest Festival donations which go to those in need in the local area.
All saints Church
The church holds a carol service every year and hosts a harvest festival. The school works closely with Reverand Danielle who is a regular visitor to the school!
Pilgrims View Care Home
In previous years our Year 3 and 4 pupils visited the care home to interact with residents and we are currently making plans for future visits.
Aldi
Our school is signed up to the Neighbourly Project, which donates supplies and fresh food, and allows us to then pass these on to the local community.
Headstart
We are a Headstart school, recieving an award from them for wellbeing and emotional resilience.
Snodland Town Council
We work collabortively with the local council to involve our school in local celebrations including the Christmas Parade and light up in the town hall. The children made beautiful lanterns that were lit up on the night of the pararde.
Fundraising
Our children have raised considerable amounts of money for both Mc Millan Cancer Fund, Place2Be, Help for Heroes, Children In Need and Great Ormond Street Hospital. The whole school takes pride in raising funds for local, national and international charities.
Remembrance Service
Every year, our children take part in a number of Remebrance day events, including assemblies, services and parades. We have had guest speakers like Mr Patrick Tootal who is a WW Veteran and we often are graced with the company of our local mayor.
Mayor's Debate
Our Year 6 children are regularly asked to take part in the mayoral debates at the official chambers in Kings Hill. This is a great experience for our older pupils to develop their verbal skills and see the Mayor's Chambers first-hand.
Mayor Visit
We often invite the Mayor to visit us and also our children take part in the mayoral debates at the official chambers in Kings Hill. This is a great experience for our older pupils to develop their spoken English.
Local PSCO
We work closely with our Youth Engagement officer for Tonbridge and Malling. They help us understand topical issues around knife crime, common assault, shoplifting and peer pressure; who is legally responsible and more importantly who to turn to if you’re in trouble or feel worried.
We are lucky that our local PCSO regularly visits us to talk to the children on any relevant topics.
