Safety In The Community
This page is dedicated to keeping children safe in every way within our community, and helping them to learn about how they can keep themselves safe.
We encourage all children and staff to consider their means of travel to school. This will include walking, car sharing and the use of public transport. Children may scooter or cycle to school but parent/carers must teach them how to use the roads safely. Parents/carers are asked to be considerate of others when bringing their child to school by car and park where they will not be causing a problem to pedestrians, residents or other drivers.
Road safety- Small Steps
Small Steps Safe Pedestrian Training
Small Steps is a pedestrian training scheme designed for key stage 1 children and is delivered over the course of a term. Children are taken out in small groups for up to 30 minutes each week to the roadside to learn the 3 key skills.
* Finding safer plaes to cross
* The dangers of junctions
* Crossing between parked cars
This is a scheme that we participate in proudly every year with the help of our staff and parent volunteers.

Bikeability Level 1 & 2 Training Courses-
Year 6 doing their week of Bikeability Training
Bikeability Cycle Training equips children with vital life skills. Pupils not only learn to cycle, they also gain independence, social skills and a sense of wellbeing.
After Bikeability, children are better at responding to risk and report increased confidence. As a result, more children cycle to school, which in turn improves mental health and wellbeing. This allows children to get more out of the classroom, improving their attention span and engagement. Healthier habits lead to increased attendance and improved academic results. Bikeability goes beyond a training course; it impacts children's lives.
You can find out more from their website here: Cycle Training for Everyone - Deliver Safer Training | Bikeability
Scootability Training Course-
To both encourage our local children to use scooters and keep children safe while doing so, our school signs up for Scootability Training. This is a fully funded course by KCC and is aimed at our KS1 children to teach them vital skills to keep them and others safe near the busy roads.

Water safety
We live Holborough Lakes and there are also several Lakes locally. We are also lucky enough to have Larkfield Swimming Pool close by. In the summer, you may take a day trip to the coast. As part of school swimming lessons, we teach water safety.
Rail safety
Our school is close to Snodland Train Station. You should never go on train tracks as it is very dangerous. We teach rail safety in school but it essential that parents/carers reiterate this at home. Our school regularly has 'Rail Safety' assemblies and talks as part of our safeguarding.
